Director Hideo Kojima (*1) has been awarded the "Lifetime Achievement" award at the "Game Developers Choice Awards" (hereafter referred to as GDCA) in San Francisco, U.S.A. on March 25th. (Local time)
The "GDCA" chooses the most outstanding games of the year based on votes from game developers, and bestows awards in categories such as "Game of the Year", "Best Visual Arts", "Best Writing", etc.
The "Lifetime Achievement" is a category of the awards that recognizes game developers who have greatly affected the development of games and the digital game industry as a whole.
Kojima has consistently led the production of the anti-war, anti-nuclear themed "Metal Gear" series from the first title (released in 1987) to the newest title, breaking a wide variety of boundaries all along the way.
Last year, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was released simultaneously worldwide, receiving many domestic and overseas awards, bringing the total unit sales of the series to over 26.5 million copies. (*2)
